transhumanism ep is a combination of ethereal and angular sounds, but with many points of reference concatenated between them. starting from the side a, if methodical ear has as its base, a rhythm with an incipit house, but with edgy sounds always in progress, shadow manipulation of mind looks at an utopian techno, together a dense and obsessive hypnotic groove. instead, in the b-side, synapsi sonora-, presents a classical structure, but with kick and snare somewhat in the foreground, with low, evolving, sick and stifling pads in their concept of low-fi timbal. state of induced hibernation is an alien traces in his gait metal percussion and sharp synth, make a song to say the least harsh and unwilling to be defined and confined to specific genres, as in the complex is all this project for ambiwa records.

alex aq constructed “don’t break” and “shake it” as a reflection of the sounds heard at the club. pounding drums, rhythmic, scattered synths, white noise, and choice vocal snips that send you into a trance are the core characteristics of both tracks created by the cubanmeister.
on the flip, myles serge of knotweed records and his own label (ms) remixes “don’t break it”, taking it in a trippy direction, with 808 drums and dreamy stabs that sound fresher than ever.

lizards are lee forster (1/3 last waltz) and james hadfield (the mainstay of the elizabeth collective). taking over a full side, and clocking in at over 9 minutes, anthemic understatement is a very difficult trick to pull of, but the deepness of feel here, coupled with the restraint shown in rhythm and melody, allows the track space to ebb, flow and truly get under the skin of the listener. it s one of those rare tracks that are as equally beautiful as they are danceable international track lives up to it s name, seeing the north eastern english producers channel the japanese take on the balearic sound as heard in productions by artists such as cosmes.

pete herbert drops the second release on paradise row - the imprint he and dicky trisco set up to release their own output. mango moon is a very herbertesque number pumped full of musical influences from house to italo to disco, but with an eagle eye at all times on driving the dance floor really wild. pedro demonstrates his years of experience as both a producer and a dj in a track that captures so much of the territory he has covered in both guises over the years. with its pumping live disco underbelly, its melodic italo-style keys riding on top and its rock solid drums, it really is a very classy production by a dj/ producer who knows where he wants to go and how to get us all there at the same time. meanwhile on the flip, his label and dj compadre dicky trisco flips the track in a live disco direction with an epic take of his own that throws more than a few surprises into the mix. dicky teases the dancefloor with a long build up but just wait until those wicked keys by faze action s robin lee drop in! quality stuff, & more great dance floor tackle courtesy of paradise row.

wah wah 45s return to the 12- format to bring you three incredible re-works from french disco don the reflex, for our very own legendary canadian/haitian keyboard wiz henri-pierre noel. funky spider dance is a percussion heavy bomb filled to the brim with henri s soaring piano licks and infectious female vocal hooks. the reflex has taken what was already a sure-fire club favourite, and created something of a dance floor destroyer. his rework of a fifth of beethoven takes its time to build into another heavy hitter. as the beats make way for henri s deft keyboard flourishes, the recognition of this cover of the walter murphy classic (taken from the saturday night fever soundtrack) begins to dawn - and as it does, it s clear that once again the dream team of hpn and the reflex have worked their magic! last, but certainly not least, the reflex s revision of back home..., sweet home is a modern island funk masterpiece with organ and tropical guitar riffs making way for sunny brass stabs all underpinned by foot friendly beats. the original versions of funky spider dance and back home..., sweet home can be found on henri s one more step lp, and his take of a fifth of beethoven was recently available on 7-inches of wax - all on wah wah 45s of course. the reflex revisions all appear here together on vinyl, in fact anywhere, for the very first time!

billy nasty’s electrix records launches its 2016 schedule by welcoming back the always impressive, carl finlow. carl is one of dance music’s leading lights and a multi-talented producer across a range of genres, with releases stretching back to the early 90s. well known for the 2020 vision label he launched with ralph lawson, his solo work however has often taken an electro route with releases under various guises like random factor, black labs, voice stealer, silicon scally and scarletron (with daz quayle) on labels including warp, fuel, playhouse, paper, trope, sony, klang, arista, soma, scsi, pagan, minifunk, seventh sign and satamile. it’s been almost 3 years since carl appeared on electrix. his ‘boot loop ep’ became the label’s second release after its re-launch in 2013. but it’s definitely been worth the wait. his ‘electricology 4 ep’ once again shows why he’s a master of the genre. from the tough and funked-up ‘lateral thoughts’, speckled and melodic ‘hyperloop’, squelching, bassy ‘suspect reanimation’ and sinister, beat-driven ‘latext’, right through to the playful ‘atomic level’ (a bonus track for the digital release), the ep shines, with a stamp of high quality running though its core.

benales opens the e.p. with radiate, a track where you can clearly hear his influences of the american school of 90s minimal techno. long time dj but new on the production side, this is benales first effort on vinyl. after his initial masterpiece on knotweed records (kw006) and a handful of releases on demented (hiss 1992) and krill, opuswerk is back on knotweed with displacement, a trippy, hard hitting, analogic techno attack: no concession on this one! gonzalo md has already delivered the goods on both knotweed (kw004 and kw011) and decision making theory (dmt 006), as well as a fantastic ep recently on extrasolar. here, with sharp oscillation, he keeps developing his unique style, producing a highly percussive, almost samba-like, piece of techno. label owner philippe petit closes the e.p. with indian summer, a track moving along a warm bassline, bearing some recognisable krautrock influences.

hot off his collaboration with madlib and med (bad neighbor), socal ambassador blu has teamed up with the paris-based production team union to present “la counting”, the lead single off their forthcoming album cheetah in the city. featuring remixes by exile, dibiase, and yann kesz, this limited edition 10” delivers blu’s lyrical love letter to los angeles while union’s synth-soaked production marks a stylistic sea change for the below the heavens mc. rippling with 808s and cinematic strings, la counting is an organic evolution from the signature keyboard-driven sound that put union on the map in 2012 with analogtronics, their debut album featuring talib kweli, mf doom, elzhi, guilty simpson, and more. cheetah in the city will be released later this year on fat beats records, but until then the world will have to keep la counting.

this polyrhythmic swirl of drum machine, tape echo and locked grooves is the product of two post-1982 jam sessions between an anonymous dj and drum machine operator duo. the dj liked the way a record happened to skip. more were made to do so. the drum machine operator had had a bit too much, but he knew that 100 divided by 3 was 33 - and he was feeling the toms that night. file under: funky experimental.

italian producer and be free label head jäger makes his debut on underyourskin records with a haunting ‘mystical journey‘ that turns out to be a playful minimalistic techno approach in the beginning, before evolving into a dark synth driven and more techhouse dominant tune gaining its dancefloor eligibility with a heavy baseline. louis kolben, part of agents of time, takes on the technoid approach to create a wobbling stomper that could easily tear in any location it is played at. ‘mizar‘, the ep‘s second track, partly connects with regards to content to ‘mystical journey‘ but focussing merely on that dreamy aspect that claims its listeners and leads one to a state of trance. steffen sonnenschein builds up the track slower to delay its peak that hits heavily when the synth sounds are let loose and set the pace throughout the end.

the hip house boom was in full effect, thanks to tyree coopers efforts, and trax responded with this double-header. power move is straight up hip hop, but its the flip, producer by trax regular lidell townsell, i ll make you dance that does the business here. kool rock steady, also known as edward rudolph, had serious credentials for an mc, being cousin of one africa bambaataa. this release is also notable for yet another misspelling of lidell townsell s christian name (lydell, since you ask).

its always unwise to judge a label thats still taking its first steps, but banoffee pies has barely put a foot wrong since launching a couple of years back. here, the bristol-based imprint continues with its successful split release formula, gathering together a quartet of tracks from up-and-coming producers. beaner kicks things off with the bumpin , low-slung deep house grooves and delay-laden guitar samples of it takes two, before philou louzolo raises the temperature with the looped horn samples and thumping beats of alter ego. flip for the dreamy balearic house goodness of ron wilson s albino turtle, and the bongo-laden, after-party deep house shuffle of mome s assatta.

qnete’s ep is not the question and not the answer. it’s in a hiatus between hopes and fears, still maintaining an eager energy. within a short period of time all tracks were recorded straight to tape, raw and improvised. they remember the sun bath before the storm, when you feel that something is about to roll over you. they express the urge and need to sometimes just jump into the cold water to face what’s coming next. they linger in the nervous energy when you’re lost and don’t know what to expect. but they also talk about the hope of finding a safe place.

tired of the politics of the minneapolis funk scene it’s rumored the group has taken refuge in tokyo’s late night disco scene. their brilliant and cheeky song writing combined with incomparable musicianship will be sure to make a bold statement in the modern funk scene this year. “hot touch” brings bass that goes oops upside your head and down your back into your butt crack. we’ve all been burned before, but never like this. brilliant cut followed by the super deep two-step stunner “ain’t gonna last” on the flip. perfect soundtrack for the end of the party when you look around and yourself, “which one of these freaks is going home with me tonight?” out on star creature.

modern love very rarely reaches out to artists outside of its immediate surroundings, it’s happened just a couple of times in the last 14 years. but there’s something about philippe hallais that compelled the label to ask him if he wanted to do something together. philippe has released music on a bunch of cool labels (l.i.e.s., the trilogy tapes, delsin, in paradisum), but hearing the first tracks recorded for lighthouse stories, it was obvious philippe was hitting on something new: a kinda weird slow/fast dance music that sounded like a footwork variant sewn up with an exotic production style that was impossible to pin down. these tracks eventually splintered off into different directions, held together by a strong sense of narrative and motion harking back to a teenage obsession with turntablism, detroit electro and ghetto house, and eventually juke and grime. although he’s spent the last few years focusing on more industrial dancefloor variants, for lighthouse stories philippe turned to these foundational influences, as well as his love of mixtapes and sound collages full of unfinished ideas, skits and experiments, all things that inform the flow of this new album. lighthouse stories captures a sense of nostalgia well, but is also a futuristic vision full of that exploratory, vibrant spirit that’s so hard to find in electronic music these days. frames of reference are hard, but in places it reminds us of the dusted swagger of anthony shake shakir, the acquatic drexciyan movements of ultradyne, a loose-limbed take on shangaan, and of actress at his most submerged. but ultimately, it’s an album made by a producer looking to his personal history while forging new ground, pushing ahead with little regard to convention and ultimately ending up with something completely unique: a kind of intimate journal rendered in bright colours and odd shapes.

with releases on rush hour, mister saturday night and delusions of grandeur, nebraska is a man who needs little introduction. here, he delivers and amazing ep for heist, showcasing his talent for finding those catchy, but hard to pin-down samples. the soften the wireless ep navigates nicely between disco and house with 4 originals and an amazing tom noble remix. khans bargain will be the go to track the more disco minded listeners out there, with a catchy-as-hell synth line that you wish youd made up yourself. the remix, courtesy of nycs finest disco selector tom noble, goes on a clubbier path, turning the silky smooth original into a distorted house jam full of delays and filtered drums. the b-side sees nebraska turning towards the housier side of things himself, with the blues as a perfect example of minimalistic house. here, he uses only a small amount of elements to create an intoxicating and intense groove. it wont be long breezes through with a lighthearted arpeggio and some lovely dreamy vocals to set a more emotional vibe. ep closing track (digi only) varkala is somewhat of a special track, being dug up from an old hard disc and remastered for your listening pleasure. sincerely yours, lars & maarten

from da vaults…nettles is a new series from red rack ems bergerac label which will focus on the more sample based end of things. tracks which have remained secret weapons for many years will finally see the light of day. this first release features music which was played by quite a few heavy hitters but sadly remained lost on the hard drive…until now… ‘bill george starts of as a super funky, cut up electro disco jam which morphs into the mother of all breakdowns before drifting into super deep detroit style house and then peaking back to the original electro funk vibes. a secret weapon for the likes of crazy p (who featured it on their beats in space mix way back in 2010) and one of red rack em most unreleased tracks requested for release , there s going to be quite a few people around the world celebrating bill george finally making it to wax. a 30 second piece of incidental music from a long lost german children s television series is extended into a late night disco jam timm which picked up props from none other than todd terje when danny extended it back in the hot coins edit days of 2007. another lost track which is finally seeing release…. ‘transfer list began life as a hip hop beat which ended up being such an epic opus that the full glory of the track had to be unleashed. once again a cdr classic for a trusted few. a super funky beat evolves into a kind of honky tonk vibe sort of on the kmd tip but with added poppy vocals. made in 2003

on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.

we are happy to introduce you to the second ep from by dc salas on biologic records, the label that he co-founded and manages with the french producer abstraxion. they celebrated their 10 year anniversary at the end of 2015 and continue to release a string of eps to mark the occasion. ‘when you left’ is an ep that overcomes sadness. times can be rough, but it never lasts forever. this original material is complemented by two powerful remixes: one from the mysterious cliff lothar, who is supported by people as diverse as john talabot, delta funktionen and radiohead’s thom yorke. the second remix is done by the australian producer inkswel (bbe). this ep is an important step for the producer as he prepares his debut album ‘the unspoken’ which will be announced by biologic records in the coming months. pressing on transparent green vinyl.

throughout the ages man has been obsessed with the idea of the dead coming back to us, either through the power of faith, magic and/or science, or as (horror) arousing visitations from beyond the grave. but cold hands like these neednt be physical: an ambiguous childhood memory, a few burning phrases from a book, or a short but powerful patchwork of tones and rhythms can also come back and haunt you when you least expect it. ritual malmö 02 consists of three such works that have haunted us for some time now, beseeching us to share them like cursed japanese vhs-tapes. who we are is not important - this is forever yours now.

on silicon tare, the sci-fi story that seth haley, who records as com truise, began on the galactic melt lp and continued on the wave 1 ep takes a dark turn. at the conclusion of wave 1, the protagonist, earth’s first synthetic astronaut, successfully makes contact with the far-off wave 1 colony but, once he does, things get fuzzy. he falls in love, there is a war coming. a story that began in hope and dreams of discovery ends on an uncertain note. change is in the air.

shipwrec rolls out its new remix series with a serious slab of electro red meat. the main course is served by a machine music master, umwelt. and what else would the serving be but the rawest of electro, coarsened by surging acid and slicing snares. accompanying the original are a triumvirate of talent. ekman is first, ratcheting up those sticky 303 lines whilst adding his own mischief and menace for a mind-bending mix. comes in a printed sleeve with artwork by mehdi rouchiche. limited to 200 coloured copies.

cray76, joakim’s dance project, is back with a 2-track ep.
on the a-side, this is what we would call a banger here at crowdspacer. simple, stupid, raw, funky. is it a tribute to new york? not sure but the b side certainly is. to be more precise it’s a tribute to merce cunningham, the legendary choreographer, close collaborator of john cage and genius thinker who inspired the name of the label. based on a recorded lecture by merce, the eponymous track is a slow, hypnotic and organic house groove, an ode to movement and ny avant garde, because “...dancing is a visible action of life.”

anno stamm, now with a long player for all city. great previous form for all city and meakusma under this guise but the man behind the anstam output. hot! a structured double pack from anno stamm designed as both a collection of singular parts which work on the dancefloor and blurring together for a coherent full length home stereo listening.

hand stamped vinyl only release with promo feedback form included... the a side, body action has been causing quite a stir since it was included in medlar s excellent solid steel mix last year. with it s recognisable vocal hook and piano line, it stood out amongst the high calibre of records included. on the flip aya chan is a brand new cut but channels medlar s love for classic 80 s labels such as west end & prelude.

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

the third vinyl release from evod music is a collection of 4 tracks by various artists, that expresses all music ideas of the label. thanks to yyyy solidity, svarog experimentation, syntaxism mysticism and evod known intensity, this release confirms that the label can touch all the shades of techno music, but always keeping his defined sonority.
